What are the best bookkeeping and mindset books?

What are the best bookkeeping and mindset books?

I love a good book and despite the technology I enjoy reading a hard copy that I can physically feel in my hands. I believe that self-development is really important as a business owner and we can always continue to learn more from others. That’s why I want to tell you about some books which may be really helpful for you on your journey as a bookkeeper.

Selling to Serve - James Ashford

If you’re in the bookkeeping world, James Ashford will be no stranger to you. He’s the face of GoProposal (recently acquired by Sage) and he’s someone people look up to in the world of bookkeeping and accountancy. His book Selling to Serve will take you on a journey in order for you to change your mindset of how to sell your services with confidence. I know full well how hard pricing can be and having the confidence to charge your worth. I found the book really motivating and it really helps you to change your opinion on how you’re currently pricing.

Untapped - James Ashford

Many bookkeepers and business owners alike for that matter overthink what they’re clients think when it comes to pricing. We concentrate on building our businesses through generating more leads and gaining new clients but in actual fact we can develop our businesses further through expanding on our current revenue. Untapped, deep dives into how to unlock your potential and grow your business with what’s already in front of you.

What’s also great is that both James Ashford’s books mentioned above are free to download if you’re subscribed to Kindle Unlimited.

The Numbers Business - Della Hudson

Once you’ve gained your bookkeeping qualification you may be a bit bewildered and overwhelmed. Taking advice from other bookkeepers who have experienced the same will really help and give your confidence a boost. Della Hudson’s book is the perfect read before starting your bookkeeping practice. Learn from what she wishes she knew when she first started her business.

Banish the Bottleneck - Simon Chaplin

Maybe you’re not just starting out in business, maybe you’re in a position to grow your team. Banish the Bottleneck is the perfect read to make sure you don’t hit a brick wall when it comes to growing your team. Simon Chaplin writes about how you can motivate your unproductive team in order to become more engaged and increase productivity in your business. This book is also available for free on Kindle Unlimited too!

We strongly encourage you to read the books discussed above if you haven’t already. Let us know what you think of them, email us at

value and pricing

As a bookkeeping practice, we understand how critical it is to get your pricing structure right. At LJM Bookkeeping, we’ve moved away from the traditional hourly rate model, and while this shift can feel daunting, it brings immense benefits for both our clients and us.
branding

Establishing a strong brand name is really important for your established or growing business. At LJM Bookkeeping we’ve been working on our brand name for more than a decade. It’s not something that happens overnight. It’s about attracting the right clients, building trust, earning your reputation, and receiving recognition to ensure long-term success.

As a business owner, I've come to realise that growth is not just about the services we provide or the hours we put in; it's also about the connections we make. That's why, as the owner of LJM Bookkeeping, I prioritise attending events like Accountex
