Running a bookkeeping practice, like any business, comes with its own set of challenges and demands. As the owner of LJM Bookkeeping, I've navigated through various stages of growth, but it wasn't until I made a pivotal decision to hire a Virtual Assistant (VA) that I truly experienced a transformation in my business. In this blog post, I want to share how bringing a VA onboard has helped me focus on what truly matters in my business.

Other areas of knowledge and expertise

I’m not a particularly creative person. I have loads of ideas in my head but can’t always get them down on paper. My VA helps me to do this by allowing me to brain dump ideas which she turns into visual content and helps me to put processes in place for me to get to my end goals.

Focus

Outsourcing the tasks which aren’t necessarily my area of expertise or I just never have the time for, frees up time to enable me to focus on my clients and my business. I feel like I have a team around me that can support me without having the hassle of employing staff. 

I don’t feel alone

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey at times. Having a VA as a sounding board provides me with invaluable support. Whether it’s discussing ideas, venting frustrations, or seeking advice, having someone to chat with who understands the business landscape is incredibly beneficial.

Even though I’m a sole practitioner, I never feel alone. If I’m ever unsure of an idea I have in business or personally I know I can use my team to give their opinions which means a lot. They’ll all see things from different angles and perspectives and it’s great to have this input in my business. 

When I’m attending an awards ceremony like I am today I can prepare what I’m wearing, along with hair, make up and accessories whilst getting their input too. 

I’m moving house soon and I’ll be asking them to help with some interior design ideas. All the things I don’t necessarily have time to research or just to get someone else’s perception. 

Positivity and motivation

If I’m ever doubting myself, trust me I still suffer from imposter syndrome! I talk to the guys at Two Birds and they will tell me how hard I work, how far I’ve come and how good I really am at what I do. They keep my feet on the ground but give me encouragement when it’s needed. They’re always there in the background to keep me motivated and focused. I call Gemma, “My cheerleader”.

Having a VA who believes in your vision and celebrates your successes can be incredibly uplifting. Their encouragement and positivity is instrumental in keeping me motivated during both highs and lows.

Client Support

No one is an expert at everything. Bringing a VA with complementary skills onboard expanded the capabilities of my practice. Whether it’s marketing, design, or technical support, their expertise complements mine, enriching the services we offer to our clients.

We’ve been able to offer admin support to our clients when they’ve needed it most. Whether it be on an ad hoc basis or on a monthly basis we go above and beyond for our clients because we have the right team behind us.

Implementation of systems and workflow processes

If you know me, you’ll know that I love software! Software has been a huge influence in my business. Implementing efficient systems is crucial for scaling any business. However, finding the time to develop and implement these systems can be challenging. It’s great to have the help of a VA to support me in this so that we can streamline processes, maximise efficiency and ensure smooth daily operations for both my business and for my clients. Being able to streamline processes has elevated my business to new heights.
