Consultancy vs Bookkeeping

Consultancy vs Bookkeeping

Over recent years I’ve introduced consultancy into my business. The reason for this is that I’ve developed knowledge and experience over the years and thought I’d put it to good use.

Of course bookkeeping is the foundation of my business and I absolutely love helping business owners to get back in control of their finances and being part of their journey as their business grows.

In this blog I’ll talk to you about the differences between doing the bookkeeping and working on a consultancy basis and why they are both important elements of my bookkeeping practice.

Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping when done accurately and consistently gives you as a business owner a better understanding of your financial position. This results in you being able to make better business decisions. By delegating your bookkeeping you can have peace of mind that your finances are in order, you're complying with rules and regulations and you can concentrate on doing what you do best.

Bookkeeping is a legal requirement. As a business owner it’s your responsibility to record all financial transactions coming in and out of your business so that you can file your tax returns correctly. Outsourcing this to a professional takes the weight off of your shoulders.

By hiring a professional bookkeeper like us, you have access to reports which can give you an insight into your business. Something which you may not be able to interpret if you don’t have a bookkeeper at your side.

The bonus about outsourcing your bookkeeping is that you can really concentrate on your business without having to worry about all the admin that goes with it. You don’t have to understand all the processes that have been implemented as someone else is in control of that.

Consultancy

Some clients prefer to do their own bookkeeping and that’s where our consultancy service comes in. Rather than handing over full control of your bookkeeping and finances you can do this yourself. However in order to understand exactly what’s required, both by law and for the health of the business you’ll require some training and advice.

We can help you to put the right systems in place to suit your growing business. Having the right software in place is key to increasing productivity and ensuring your business processes are streamlined and efficient. You can spend hours and hours searching for the right software but by speaking to us on a consultancy basis you’ll have access to all of our knowledge when it comes to what the best software is.

If you come across an issue and problem solving isn’t your thing, then leave it to someone who loves to find a solution!

If you’re keen on investing in your self development and have the time to implement it then learning how to do the tasks properly is the way forward for you.

If you’re at the point in your business that you want to start stepping back then introducing new software to assist you is key. Speaking to a professional who has dealt with the same circumstances you’re in, in the same industry as you will speed up the process.

We’ve recently been working with software companies on a consultancy basis. We’ve really enjoyed doing this as we’ve helped them make changes to their software based on what bookkeepers and business owners really need. It’s brilliant to be involved in helping to change the future of bookkeeping.

As a bookkeeping practice, we understand how critical it is to get your pricing structure right. At LJM Bookkeeping, we’ve moved away from the traditional hourly rate model, and while this shift can feel daunting, it brings immense benefits for both our clients and us.
